Don’t Keep This Under Your Hat

Hard hat recycling scheme reports successful destruction of over 10,000 hard hats in 3 years, preventing disposal in a landfill.

Good news from the world of recycling, with a report of over 10,000 hard hats in the last 3 years having been saved from landfill, via a scheme to shred them into 10mm flakes by Yes Recycling in Buckinghamshire.  As recycling specialists, they apply a sorting process to the flakes, which are cleaned and melted down to form polymer pellets, ready for re-use in another plastic product.

Each year it’s estimated that several million hard hats are sent to landfill in the UK alone, so projects like The National Hard Hat Recycling Scheme can play a powerful role in helping to reduce the plastic that’s disposed of – and hard hats are deliberately built to withstand destruction!  Here’s hoping more UK businesses sign up for the scheme.
