We at Riskex are proud to support young people who are on the first rung of their career ladder. Indeed, several members of our established team started business as apprentices, and it’s been a pleasure to watch them grow both professionally and personally.
We are thrilled to announce Robert Lewin as the newest member of the Riskex family. He joins the business as an IT Technician apprentice and will be helping to bolster our support team to ensure the continual delivery of first-class customer care.
Nikki Sammé, Managing Director at Riskex added “Already having a solid understanding of IT, Robert is a talented and passionate individual who brings with him a great customer focussed attitude and bounds of energy! We’re delighted to have Robert onboard and wish him every success. Welcome to Riskex!”
During our weekly team get together, we had the opportunity to drill into what motivated Robert to apply for an apprenticeship and choose to join Riskex.
Q: What made you decide to start a career in IT
A: I got into IT after my GCSE’s, I’ve always had an interest in technology and carried out several hobby-projects creating video games – this spurred me on to turn it into a career. While I was doing my A-levels I got into coding and carried on from there! In the long term, I want to be either a developer or a pen tester but that’s a long way away.
Q: Did you gain any work experience in IT before becoming an apprentice?
A: Yes, I did some volunteering work in a support role before joining Riskex. I wanted to get a feel for the role and make sure it was for me before I committed to a full-time position. I also wanted to give something back to the community during the pandemic. I chose an apprenticeship to gain more on-the-job skills and boost my knowledge whilst having access to formal training.
Q: Why did you decide Riskex was a great business to choose for your apprenticeship?
I chose Riskex for a few reasons with the main one being it’s a local company, with a proven track record in supporting apprenticeship programmes. I could tell through the interview process that Riskex will give me the opportunities to learn lots of new skills through a varied role that I know I can get stuck into! The culture at Riskex is one of support and teamwork and I have confidence that I will be effectively coached and mentored through the process.
I also had the opportunity through the recruitment process to spend a day shadowing the team so got a good feel for the working environment and culture.
The technical team have huge amounts of experience and they are a fun bunch! Talking to some of the other former apprentices I’m confident this is a great place for me to start my journey. I suppose the only downside is that none of the team support a decent football team – I won’t name and shame them but suffice to say none of them support Manchester United 😊.
